What is Top-grade Transport?
A series of 5 interviews that will provide you with valuable knowledge in a nutshell over the next 5 months. The insights of 5 experts from the transport, freight, and logistics industry will help you plan safe transport while optimizing costs. What to consider? What to focus on? We invite you to read!
Krzysztof Adamczyk – Team Leader with extensive experience in the freight industry. He studied commodity science at the University of Life Sciences in Lublin, Poland and developed his skills working in the United States & Canada. He joined NWIC over 5 years ago through a recommendation. He started in the department handling American Road Transport, and thanks to his dedication and continuous development, he now holds the position of Team Leader of the Marine Department. Over the years, he has significantly contributed to the development of the American Customer Service department and trained new logistics specialists. Privately, he is a sports enthusiast, having played volleyball for 9 years, practiced MMA and crossfit, plus danced in a song and dance ensemble during his studies.
NWIC: Krzysztof, what skills and competencies do you consider crucial for team leaders in the freight industry, especially in the era of digitization and automation of logistics processes?
Krzysztof – Clear goals and process transparency – this is what I require from the management and managers. When these factors are ensured, I focus on organizing my own and my team’s work. Key elements are effective communication and maintaining good, professional relationships both within the organization and with clients. The logistics process is complex, so proper navigation and understanding the scope of responsibility are essential. Without this, processes could get stuck, which nobody wants. Automation offers many possibilities but can also cause confusion; therefore, from my perspective, it should be implemented gradually yet efficiently to stay competitive. This poses many challenges for the industry, so adapting to changing conditions and continuous improvement is necessary. I believe it will mostly streamline operational activities and information flow.
NWIC: How does effective intercultural communication impact the success of freight operations, especially when working with partners from different parts of the world?
Krzysztof – I believe the most important thing in freight is know-how, and the second is effective communication. When dealing with people from all over the world, it’s worth taking a few minutes to do some quick research, learn about the region, upcoming holidays, or customs, and ask something casual during the first contact – this helps in communication. If you do this, the person on the other side will be more willing to cooperate with you. I handle clients from different parts of the world and appreciate those who make an effort to say something in Polish – it’s nice.
NWIC: Can you share an example of a project that particularly reflects the innovation of your team in the area of air or sea transport?
Krzysztof – Each of the smaller teams at NWIC is part of a larger NWIC team, so everything we do in sea operations goes through a series of specialists and is consulted to provide a quality solution. Therefore, I wouldn’t attribute the success of an interesting project to one smaller team. It usually starts with Customer Service – the client comes to us with an idea, and we figure out how to do it. An interesting example could be the disassembly of an industrial welding cage in Michigan, securing it for shipping in several specialized containers to Europe – this was one of Cezary’s first projects, which I was training him for, and all stages went smoothly. Another innovative example is the Fulfillment services we managed to introduce in our warehouse in Hodgkins, IL, together with our business partner. Currently, we pack and ship about 3,000 parcels monthly across the United States and are working on additional projects in this area.
NWIC: Ready for the question we ask each of you? What steps should I take to choose a reliable logistics company and avoid potential problems?
Krzysztof – There can only be one answer to this question: “call NWIC” – there’s no need to think and search further, just call 😊
NWIC: Which ocean current will the future of transport follow? Do you have any advice for those planning transport in 2024 and minimizing the effects caused by war and inflation?
Krzysztof – Sea transport is an integral part of international trade. The market has always been volatile, and our clients are well aware of this. Inflation and various geopolitical tensions undoubtedly affect prices, availability of goods, and can disrupt supply chains. It’s certainly a difficult time for our clients, who may find that the cost of purchasing certain goods in a given country is too high, and to stay competitive, they need to look for similar products at competitive prices in another country, which can be challenging. From our perspective, shipping companies work tirelessly to keep containers moving, regardless of market conditions. Therefore, if our client ends a partnership with one supplier and starts with a new one in another country, we can provide logistics solutions while maintaining service quality. To sum up, my advice is to always look for alternative solutions, especially during challenging times.
NWIC: Thank you for the interview
Krzysztof – The pleasure is all mine 😊
